As a prime, TSI Engineering, Inc. (TSI) provided design-build services to replace electric water heater at United States Coast Guard, Yerba Buena Island in California for the U.S. Department of Homeland Security. As a submittal part, TSI submitted project schedule, water heater sizing calculations, material data sheets, and daily reports to the government for approval.
US Coast Guard Building 27 is sited adjacent to the famous bay bridge on Yerba Buena Island, San Francisco. This building was provided by old style water heater system by using boiler and electric element directly into a 1,400 gallons metal tank. The design work was involved to perform sizing calculations for energy saving electric water heater to serve four (4) washing machines, six (6) showers @ 2.5 gpm, 10 lavatories @ 2.5 gpm and one residential kitchen.
There was a challenge for TSI team to demolish existing 1,400 gallon tank in the boiler room in confined area in between many utility lines. TSI skilled staff achieved demolition target by keeping all applicable health and safety regulations with the entire satisfaction of client.
TSI performed plumbing and electrical design and construction services to the utility room at building 27 for thr US Coast Guard. All existing piping removed and caped properly. Two (2) commercial (special order) electric water heater installed at site to meet demand by achieving compliance for LEED. All construction work were successfully completed under budget and within the stipulated time frame.
