When the Parks Division of Yolo County needed to find a way to attract more visitors in County Park by providing access for fishing in Cache creek—and while mitigating any impact on the aquatic life due to the construction material—it turned to TSI Engineering, Inc. (TSI) for help. TSI served as prime contractor on this construction project from design to final construction. TSI provided design & structural analysis of 125 feet ramp and deep foundation (18-in piles).

Project site is located approximately 15 miles west of Woodland, and 1/3 mile north of the town of Capay adjacent to CR 85. The 41 acre site offers public direct access to Cache Creek, hiking on all weather trails specifically designed to be accessible for disabled users for nature study, fishing, swimming, having picnic tables, barbecues, potable water and restrooms.

Noteable Achievements:

  • Awarded on Lowest Price & Best Value basis.
  • Work involved design of ramp, deep foundation analysis & design, structural analysis of ramp, driving of 4-piles, construction of 125  feet ADA compliance pedestrian ramp, erosion control, & landscaping.
  • 100% work performed by in house employees.
  • ADA Ramp manufactured by GatorDock Marine Access Solutions from Florida.

The scope of work included grading the area, driving of 18-inch diameter steel piles, perform structural analysis, design, and construct 125 feet long aluminum pedestrian ADA ramp, provide erosion control, planting and seeding with native grass and plants, and construct rock dust pedestrian path by using pavement polymer.

A key hurdle in this project was to install piles and construct metal ADA ramp in a very short time of creek closure period. Pertinent geotechnical design parameters were not available at site. TSI engineers reviews County and City files to get geotechnical information for pile design. Local gangway manufacturer were not available to fabricate ramp in short duration of time. TSI contracted with GatorDock (from Florida), who is specialized in gangway and ramp manufacturing. The project completed on time with the entire satisfaction of the County.

It is “a magnificent structure,” says Gene Wais, project manager of the Yolo County “TSI Engineering, Inc. (TSI) identified our needs and exceeded our expectations.”
